Player Value Posts
To avoid spamming the general blog page with the Player Value posts for each season/team, this blog page will serve as a separate listing of all of the Player Value posts for each season/team. These posts will be less detailed, mainly just listing out the top players each season and including the necessary files.
In this post I will list out the All-Time Cincinnati Reds lineup, according to Player Value. I will follow along the same format as MLB uses with its new "All-MLB" teams, which you can view here. That format is 1 player for each defensive position, 5 starters, and 2 relievers. I will only use DHs for AL teams, since most NL teams don't have enough seasons with the DH to really have a deserving player. Importantly, and as the graphic above suggests, these are based on individual seasons according to Player Value. The question we want to ask here is which version of a player would we want on our team? I want to give guys that only played a few seasons with a team an equal chance at making the lineup as the guys that spent their entire careers with one team. If you had to give this NL team a DH spot, you would probably move 1954 Ted Kluszewski to DH and put 2017 Joey Votto in at 1B. Kluszewski that season has the 2nd highest Batting Value in Reds history since 1912, at 65.50. Votto that season has the highest Player Value to not be in the starting lineup, at 67.67. Let's take a deeper look at our all-time team, as well as some honorable mentions and the best seasons from other noteworthy Reds players: All-Time Cincinnati Reds Lineup C - Johnny Bench (1974)

Thanks for checking out this All-Time Reds post. I think the lineup turned out pretty good, but I would definitely make some changes in building my personal lineup. I'd love to see Votto get in there, so I like the idea of having Klu as the DH and putting Votto at 1B. Groh is a little archaic for my liking, so I'd probably replace him with 1970 Tony Perez. I imagine Pete Rose as a very resourceful backup on this all-time team, but not as a starter. I like Dibble in the bullpen, but I'd probably throw Chapman or Soto in there instead of Abernathy. Despite Walters also being older, you can't deny his dominance in winning the Triple Crown and MVP in 1939, so I'd leave him, as well as the more recent Cueto. I would probably give Bauer the COVID benefit of the doubt and include him, since he's the only Reds Cy Young winner. I think I'd put in Tom Seaver as well, since he spent most of the 1977 season with the Reds, including his no-hitter. I would wrap up my starting rotation with Jose Rijo in 1993.
